New Site Offers Information About Medical Negligence Claims

Nurses, doctors and other medical professionals follow certain standards when providing care to patients. However, there are times when medical personnel may not pay sufficient attention to patients when performing a surgery or administering drugs. This is called medical malpractice or negligence and people can file a claim against members of the hospital or medical staff if they think that they’re a victim of medical negligence.

Medical negligence comes in various forms. Improper diagnosis is usually related to medical negligence and this is due to the fact that it can cause severe harm to the patient if someone gives the wrong medicines to them and it can also delay the treatment they should have received. However, improper diagnosis can only be considered medical negligence when the patient suffered from an injury because of it.

Drug errors are also usually seen in medical malpractice claims since providing the wrong anesthetics or drugs can cause injuries or possibly lead to death. Those who are held liable in this situation often include the nurse, anesthesiologist or pharmacist. Another common situation seen in medical malpractice claims is injury during surgery that happens outside of the usual risks. For instance, if the hands of the doctor aren’t steady and an instrument cuts an organ, it may cause the patient severe injury, making him or her stay in the hospital even longer than the estimated time. In this situation, the patient often receives compensation.

Patients can also file a medical malpractice claim and obtain financial compensation for the injuries they received if the doctor gave less than enough care that caused physical or emotional damage, permanent or temporary disability, wrongful death or scarring. Patients or members of the family may also get compensation for lost income or other financial problems that they may encounter during their stay in the hospital.

It is important to remember that although one of these cases occurred, if the patient did not suffer from any injury, patients or members of the family can’t file a medical malpractice claim. These cases are valid when a medical professional administered less than sufficient care and it caused injury and other problems to the patient and his or her family.
